Bird census is one of the notable activities carried out in Project Rewild Desaru which involves the identification and recording of the bird species present in the Desaru Coast range. The bird census is a step-by-step methodical process that aims at producing accurate data that can be used to make propositions of conservation. The results of bird census are then summarized in comprehensive reports that indicate the population trends of birds in Desaru Coast. Furthermore, the data gathered from bird census are useful in long term monitoring, by capturing information about the temporal variation in bird populations, and hence, the efficiency of implemented conservation strategies
