About Project ReWild Desaru
Project Rewild Desaru is an ambitious environmental restoration initiative aimed at revitalizing the terrestrial and marine ecosystems of Desaru Coast, located in Johor, Malaysia. The project is driven by the need to address the degradation of natural habitats due to urbanization, deforestation, and other anthropogenic activities.
With the support by Anantara’s Dollars for Deeds, the project seeks to restore the region’s biodiversity and create sustainable environments that can thrive for generations to come.
Desaru Coast, once known for its lush forests, diverse wildlife, and pristine beaches, has experienced significant ecological decline over the past few decades. The rapid development of agricultural expansion, and urbanization has led to habitat fragmentation, loss of biodiversity, and degradation of both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. This has had a profound impact on the local flora and fauna, many of which are now threatened or endangered.

Anantara’s Desaru Dollar for Deeds
Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas has launched the ‘Dollar for Deeds’ initiative, inviting guests to add MYR5 per night to their bill—matched by the resort—to support ReWild Desaru, a non-profit dedicated to protecting local wildlife and restoring habitats.
Funds go toward building wildlife corridors, supporting biodiversity research at Greater Desaru and Panti Recreational Forest, promoting the return of native species.
Anantara’s Guests can also participate in hands-on conservation efforts such as seed collection, tree planting, and wildlife monitoring, contributing directly to the preservation of Desaru’s natural environment while enjoying an immersive eco-conscious experience.
